Color Converter — HEX, RGB, HSL, CMYK
Type a colour in any format below. The other three update automatically. Use the colour swatch to pick visually, or type values directly into the fields.
Photoshop 7.0 Color Picker — Where Each Format Goes
Photoshop 7.0's Color Picker dialog (click the foreground or background swatch) shows four fields side by side:
- RGB for screen output — what monitors, websites, and digital cameras use.
- HSB (Hue / Saturation / Brightness) — Photoshop's variant of HSL. Use this when you want to shift "the same colour, brighter".
- Lab — perceptually uniform colour space, useful for advanced colour grading.
- CMYK for print output — what offset and digital printers use.
- # field at the bottom for HEX.
The most common need is converting a HEX from a brand guideline into RGB you can type into Photoshop, or converting RGB you picked on screen into CMYK for a print job. This tool handles both instantly.
About CMYK Conversion
The CMYK values above are calculated from a simple algorithm and assume a generic 4-colour press. Real print houses use ICC colour profiles for specific paper stocks and inks — for a production print job, ask your printer for their specific profile and use Photoshop's Image → Mode → CMYK Color with that profile loaded. The tool's output is accurate to within a few percent for design comps and proofing.
